KILL YOUR DARLINGS.
Pentimento explores what happens when past and present collide on a single canvas. Working in multiple layers atop my old landscape paintings, the works in this exhibition embody both forward motion and a presence of what came before. ‘Kill Your Darlings’ is advice often given to novelists, but it serves here as permission to paint beyond the familiar — even as earlier layers peek through like memories. These landscapes no longer exist except as seeds for new Kodachrome bursts of carnival nights and summer nostalgia.
