Working in multiple layers atop my old landscape paintings, the works in this exhibition embody both forward motion and a presence of what came before. \u2018Kill Your Darlings\u2019 is advice often given to novelists, but it serves here as permission to paint beyond the familiar \u2014 even as earlier layers peek through like memories.
